I related to the character a lot because Benji clearly shows signs of bipolar disorder, which manifests itself in such strong emotions that you feel them with him. He can express silliness, sadness, intense sadness, human sentimentality, joy and frustration all at the same time. It's crazy, but it's so raw and real. Jesse Eisenberg, who plays his cousin David, does the usual boring angst that is tiresome. But in this film, it works because David strives to play the role of a mirror that reflects back to Benji what it feels like to not experience pain. The characters play off each other well, because you feel too much, and you don't feel at all.
